Metro Animal Emergency Clinic was established in 1997 and is the only private veterinary hospital in Nova Scotia to exclusively offer emergency and critical veterinary care. Our member relationships with many veterinary hospitals in the Halifax Regional Municipality and surrounding area allow for experienced and immediate 24/7 emergency and critical veterinary care for pets. We currently serve more than 30 hospitals in Dartmouth, Halifax, and beyond.

About the Role:
We are looking for a Deputy Medical Director to partner with the Medical Director, Practice Manager, and leadership team to provide excellence in patient care, financial management, practice management, and professional development. The Deputy Medical Director would also participate in providing mentorship to new Veterinarians.
Patient Care
- Provide oversight and direction of medical standards and quality of care.
- Maintain and encourage excellence in patient care and effective working
relationships with veterinarians, support staff, and management teams.

- Set medical protocols, SOP’s and oversee compliance with emergency
veterinarians. - Ensure all patients are triaged and treated in a timely manner.
- Guide veterinarians in clearly communicating appropriate treatment options.
- Ensure rounds are performed daily and at each shift change.
- Ensure that all doctors fully document patient medical records to support care offered and facilitate easy communication in a multi-doctor setting.
- Ensure all medical records are sent to referring veterinarians in a timely
manner.

Financial Management
- Support the achievement of the clinic’s financial and operational objectives.
- Assist in maintaining the financial performance of the practice by ensuring that all veterinarians adhere to the fee schedule, and prepared treatment plans, and hospital charges.
- Conduct periodic audits of records/invoicing for accuracy and efficiency.
- Assist in monthly audits and/or reviews of DVM production reports for
accuracy.

Practice Management

environment. - Ensure quality of patient care by all doctors and assist the Practice Manager in

Professional Development
- Obtain/maintain CE requirements to improve interpersonal, supervisory/
managerial, and communication skills. - Identify and address areas of improvement in doctors & staff and coordinate
training goals with management and department supervisors. - Monitor the progress of the ER veterinary team and support their professional
development. - Assist ER veterinary team in developing organizational skills and in selecting
priorities for the delivery of superior patient care. - Ensure that all doctors develop clear clinical communication skills and
relationship-building techniques.
About You:
- Degree in veterinary medicine from an accredited university of veterinary medicine.
- Advanced knowledge in emergency and critical care with a commitment to practicing the highest standard of medicine and upholding the veterinary code of
ethics. - Member in good standing of the NSVMA.
- At least 5 years’ experience in veterinary medicine.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to coach, correct, develop, and motivate employees.
- Excellent time and task management skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Strong computer skills.
- Strong ability to multi-task, delegate and oversee daily workflow.

Registered Veterinary Technician – 2 Years Experience Required

We are actively seeking skilled and experienced Registered Veterinary Technicians to join our well-established team. Our patients consist primarily of dogs and cats, but we also see rabbits, pocket pets, and a variety of exotics. - Have graduated from an accredited VT program
- Have successfully passed the VTNE
- He licensed with, or eligible for licensing with the NSVMA
- Have 2+yrs recent experience in general or emergency practice.
